Connor Wedington Recaps Wazzu Offer.

The Sumner Spartans have made the jump to SPSL 4A for next year’s football campaign. Connor Wedington, leader of the Spartan football team, is also in the process of making a big jump. The versatile CB/RB has received his first Pac-12 football scholarship offer from Washington State University.

“Coach Eric Mele surprised me when he showed up at my school. I wasn’t expecting that call in class. I’m very excited my first Pac-12 offer was from WSU. They had a really good year and bright future.” Wedington said reflecting on the Cougar's offer from WSU’s Special Teams Coach.

Most scouts are assuming Connor Wedington will strictly play cornerback at the collegiate level. What they fail to recognize is he is more than capable of playing on both sides of the ball anytime, anywhere.

“Im open to anything, I will play whatever position my team needs me at. It’s cool to have offers on offense and defense now.” Replied Connor about his versatility.

Connor Wedington has been keeping busy since football season ended with their loss to Bishop Blanchet in the WIAA playoffs. It was Sumners only loss of the season and their last game as a 3A program.

“Ive been grinding hard since the football season ended. I’m excited to compete in Las Vegas and Los Angeles in our 7v7 national tournaments competing against the best.” Connor said reflecting on his off-season progress.

Wedington is a star on the Ford Sports Performance 7v7 team which is stacked from top to bottom at every position, and has dominated the 7v7 format so far in northwest format.

“The training has been the best for me. I’ve learned so much on technique at the cornerback position. I’m working out at Ford Sports at least 4 days a week with games every Saturday.” Connor added on his experience during his 7v7 season.

Sumner Spartans football will be in good hands next season thanks to Tre Weed and company. Tre is a 2018 WR/CB that will provide serious talent on both sides of the ball next season and everyone is excited.

“We have a solid group coming back and looking to make a serious run for the Tacoma Dome.” noted Wedington on looking forward to 2016 season.

Washington State University might have provided the first football scholarship offer from the “Conference of Champions” but a lot more are going to be coming very soon. Washington, Washington State, Brigham Young, California, Oregon State, Boise State, Hawaii, Wyoming, and most Big Sky schools have been the most active in his recruiting so far.

“Washington has been the most aggressive so far. I’ve talked to Coach Pete, Keith Bhonapha, and Jeff Choate while at Washington before heading to Montana State for the head coaching job. I grew up in Tacoma area and I’ve always followed the Huskies but I’m focused on playing anywhere at any position to help my team.” Connor added about his recruitment process.

Wedington also grew up a Reggie Bush fan and still models his current game around him while playing running back. He is also a standout on the Spartan’s track team and will compete this spring focusing on the 4x100 and 100 events to add to his speed training. The recruiting trail is fun to follow and its officially taking off for Connor Wedington.
