FSP 7v7 Alumni recap

The best game to watch last Sunday afternoon was not on Q13, but instead was played at Lake Washington high school as Ford Sports held it’s 2nd annual alumni game. Ford Sports sponsors an elite 7 on 7 travel team. The winter/spring 2016 team played two games starting at 1 pm against the Alumni Veteran Squad a roster filled with current college players and the FSP Alumni Incoming Freshman squad, a roster filled with the top class of 2016 recruits.

The alumni teams touted familiar names like Ross Bower (Cal), Chico McClatcher

(Washington), Isaac Garcia (Oregon State commit), Andrezj Hughes Murrary (Oregon State Commit), Keenon Curran (Montana), Ruban Mwhela (Idaho), and alot more.

The weather was perfect for a game of football. It was cold, calm, and brisk. Light snowflakes started to fall as the teams were warming up. A large group of fans were there to show their support for family, friends, and teammates. On hand to cheer on Bowers was Bothell’s 64, 205 lbs QB Jacob Sirmon (2018) who is already committed to the University of Washington.

This year’s 7 on 7 squad, led by 6’0 180lbs QB Zach Lewis (2018) out of Eastside Catholic,

got off to a fast start as 5’8 180lbs RB Alex Indelicato (2017) “broke a few ankles” and helped set up the team with an early lead. It was clear that the veteran team had underestimated their younger counterparts. But the alumni came back and made sure everything stayed competitive. Easily the best matchup to watch was between 5’11 190lbs DB Salvon Ahmed (2017) who hails from Juanita high school and Bellevue TE Isaac Garcia who will be heading to Oregon State next year. Ahmed already has verbal offers from Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, USC, and Utah. He is also ranked #1 on Top Left Prep’s list of Best Athletes.

As the competition heated up, the snow really began to come down. It was a ton of fun watching Bowers lead his veteran teammates down the field to fight back and keep the game close. When Bowers connected with Max Richmond, it was easy to see why the University of Washington would want his speed on the field. When 6’0 180lbs DB Connor Weddington (2017) reached out with one hand and grabbed a pick 6, everyone went wild. Another strong defender was 6’0 195lbs Safety, Bradley Kim (2017). Kim plays hard but is one of the most friendly and coachable kids you will meet which is one of the reasons he ranks so high against the other safeties in the Northwest.

There were too many receiving highlights for me to mention but there were several receivers that stood out. 6’0 185lbs WR Hunter Eckstrom (2017) is strong and plays with the intensity needed to catch balls across the middle of the field. And 6’3 180lbs WR Trevor Hoffman has the size and physique of a top outside receiver but needs to continue to improve his speed. At the end of the day, the competition was steep, the atmosphere was electric, and all the players put on a great

show. It didn’t matter that the alumni teams took over the lead and never looked back, everyone had fun competing in the snow. Keep an eye on all these athletes as you will most likely be watching them on Saturday afternoons in the fall over the next few years.
