Friendly Competition

They say competition brings the out the best in any athlete and that reigns true with both these signal callers. Quarterbacks Jacob Eason and Carmon Humphrey trained together with LDET (Lavell Durant Elite Training) and are both FSP 7on7 Select alumni. The two square off in the second round of the 4A state playoffs Friday night.

Eason is rated a five star recruit by every recruiting website, rated as the number one pocket passer in the country in most rankings and committed to play football at Georgia next fall. The 6’6″, 205lb quarterback and his rocket arm are no stranger to competing on a big stage. Eason has been close to perfection throughout his career racking up 8,594 yards and 88 touchdowns with only 15 interceptions in his time at Lake Stevens. The one thing missing is his state championship. After coming up short to Newport in 2014 (43 to 40), Eason and his No.2 ranked Lake Stevens (10-0) football team are determined to make their run to a state title. When asked about how Eason feels about this year he stated,“This is the year to do it. I’ve been playing with these guys since freshman year we have worked hard together, this is the year.”- Jacob Eason

Eason’s mind is wrapped around state title and only that. One thing standing in his way is a hungry Issaquah Football team being lead by a 6’2”, 190lbs, senior quarterback Camron Humphreys. Camron has embellished the underdog role, and is now completely ready to take the claim as the best quarterback under the lights this Friday. “We feel we are only an underdog on paper but I feel we match well with their tempo.” Says Humphreys.

Northwest quarterback guru and Elite11 coach Lavell Durant has coached some of the states and

nations top quarterbacks. As of late he’s trained the 2012 National High School player of the year and now USC Quarterback Maxx Brown. Another big name Durant has worked with is 2014 Washington State player of year and current freshman at Cal Ross Bowers. Lavell has spoke highly of both quarterbacks as he has labeled them two of his favorites.

“These are the best two High School quarterbacks in the state hands down and this will be a fun game to watch to see both of their hardwork be on display.”- Lavell Durant

This past winter/spring Eason was one of the main headliners on the FSP 7on7 select national travel team. Humphries spent a lot of his off-season playing in the shadows of Eason but never failed to prove himself when his opportunity was presented itself. Humphreys looked phenomenal throwing in Los Angeles at the IMG West Regional tournament this past spring against some of the countries top skilled players. Humphrey’s has thrown for 2,410 yards and 23 touchdowns with only 5 interceptions this year and has forced his name on a lot of schools recruiting boards this year with interest from UCLA, Washington State, Eastern Washington, and Washington. With Humphreys having played behind one of the nations top quarterback’s all winter/spring He always knew he had something to prove whenever he got his chance while playing for Team FSP. “At the time I felt I had a lot to prove, but whenever I had a series I just felt like it was my time to shine.”says Humphreys.

The last time these two competed against each other on the same field for their respected high school teams, Humphries came out on top. The Eagles defeated Eason and the Vikings in the championship game at the Lakewood 7on7 tournament this past summer. “After we beat them in 7v7 it felt good to be able to beat an air raid team like them this helps are confidence for this week” – Cam Humphreys

The two have remained friends ever sense meeting each other through training with LDET and have remained close since. Eason talked a bit about his relationship with Cam saying. “We are good friends who like to compete. We have trained a lot together with LDET. I would love to play against him in college one day as well”.

After this game there will be no hard feelings, or no love lost, both are immune to competition and both are seasoned for the big show. The only thing that is certain is one of these two quarterbacks will throw their last high school pass on Friday night but will have many more throws to make during their college careers.
