The ACT tests knowledge learned in English, science, mathematics and reading. Similar to the more common SAT, the ACT allows colleges to see how prepared individuals are for college coursework. The results are based upon the amount of correct answers and there is no penalizing for guess or wrong answer. There is also an optional writing test typically offered for an extra fee during the ACT test dates.
